Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, the Production Manager utilizes their industry knowledge to support high-quality online learning by managing production and post-production workflows for the Creative functional team's video and graphical content for HBS Online's course platform, marketing, and social channels. This position will contribute to the Content Production team's planning of production prioritization and project resourcing across the team's portfolio of new courses, course updates, marketing campaigns, and other special projects by developing and managing detailed production and post-production timelines and deliverables, monitoring project status and managing risks, and creating workflow documentation, tracking, and custom reporting.

This position will also work closely with Multimedia Producers, Content Developers, Project Managers, external production crews, and other stakeholders to plan, schedule, and execute video shoots to meet content and creative objectives. They will support project budgeting by working with Multimedia Producers and Project Managers to estimate and track Creative functional team expenses throughout pre-production and production to ensure production costs align with project scope and budget parameters.

Position Description

  • Serve as multimedia production management lead for assigned projects in the team's portfolio.
  • Develop and manage multimedia production and post-production schedules and tracking systems across all phases of development, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders throughout HBS Online, HBS, and external entities.
  • Review project multimedia production scope and timeline, identify dependencies, and provide direction and guidance on video production best practices. Quantify and illustrate proposed changes to scope, Creative functional team staffing, or other factors and impacts.
  • Manage media deliverables for internal and external stakeholder review, internal testing, and project completion.
  • Schedule and plan interview filming, faculty lecture filming, and related b-roll filming, coordinating with internal teams, vendors, faculty, interview subjects and their administrative support teams.
  • Research and plan travel, create detailed production schedules, secure filming locations, book crew and on-camera talent, coordinate equipment rentals, and prepare and distribute call sheets in collaboration with the Multimedia Producers.
  • Research local production vendors and negotiate new vendor contracts as needed.
  • Contribute to improvements in project tracking software template capabilities and project status self-reporting by Creative functional team contributors; ensure consistency of use and adherence to best practices.
  • Create and maintain production templates, production vendor lists, and documentation of production processes and best practices.
  • Identify and work to resolve multimedia production and post-production issues through process and stakeholder management. Escalate issues as needed to reduce risk to the project.
  • Provide inputs for monthly multimedia operating expenses on assigned projects.
  • Secure and maintain production and third-party media asset permissions documentation, in conjunction with Project Management.
  • Serve as the team's subject matter expert in Harvard/HBS onboarding policies and compliance; under the direction of the Creative Director and Senior Production Manager, facilitate the team's short and long-term resourcing needs and collect the information needed to request Harvard Sponsored Roles (HSR) (University identity and access management system), create and terminate assignments, initiate assignment updates, and conduct required monthly audits of system access in relation to scheduled work.
  • Manage access to Harvard accounts and Creative functional team's cloud editing and data management systems, coordinating with the System Administrator, Media Coordinator, and external vendors to grant and revoke access; ensure timely guest and contingent worker compliance with Harvard/HBS requirements in accordance with system access levels and on-site status, including required communications, and IT Security Requirements.
  • Assist on set, as needed.
  • Other duties and special projects, as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
  • 5+ years of experience in creative multimedia production or closely related field is required.
  • Education beyond high school may count toward experience.

  • Professional production field and/or studio set experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to respond effectively to real-time challenges with multiple stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organization skills, and ability to balance multiple projects and priorities.
  • Experience utilizing program status and performance reporting and project dashboards a plus.
  • Facility with Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Strong sense of discretion in relation to business information and plans (travel, projects in development, and internal and external talent).
  • Ability to work scheduled weekend or evening hours, as needed.
  • Pitches in where needed - "no job is too big or small."


Additional Information

This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.

This is a 40 hours/week, overtime-eligible position.
