Job Description:

The Manager of Accounting & Financial Analysis will perform a broad range of financial transactions and accounting and analysis responsibilities for the International Writing Program to assure effective and compliant operations.


This is a 60% time position.



Specific Job Duties and Tasks

  • Review and analyze financial information and make recommendations for budget preparation. Oversee the preparation of financial reports.
  • Assist in completing grant application and proposal forms.
  • Significant involvement in setting up new processes for reconciliation, analysis and reporting. Significant involvement as a lead role in month-end and/or year-end accounting and reporting, including report development. Prepare reports and communicate financial information to department, collegiate, and University management. Take part in the discussions of required specifications for financial tools/systems and assist in documentation.
  • Complete complex and non-routine reconciliations. May set up templates and processes for Accountants. Significant involvement as a support role in month-end and/or year-end accounting and reporting. Develop financial and operational reports which may require some limited analysis.
  • Analyze, report, and communicate financial information to department, collegiate, and University management. Oversee the development of financial and statistical analyses and supervise the development, implementation and maintenance of information systems. Prepare highly specialized reports, and make recommendations based upon financial analysis and financial planning strategies.
  • May have extensive knowledge of GAAP and GASB accounting standards. Lead the recommendation and implementation of new policies and procedures and interpretation of existing policies and procedures. Reasonably assure proper application of federal and state regulations. Assist in documenting effectiveness of related internal controls.
  • May initiate adjusting journal entries resulting from audit adjustments. May act as final approver of transactions. Manage accounting processes. Validate accuracy and assure timeliness of data.
  • May hire, develop and manage the performance of staff, assure staff is compliant with UI policies and procedures. Develop and deliver training classes on functional topics.



Education Requirement

  • A Master's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.



Required Qualifications

  • Related administrative, accounting and program experience (typically 3 years) is required, including preparing and monitoring grant budgets, and preparing financial reports.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors is required.
  • Working knowledge and evidence of success in organizing and planning tasks, maintaining attention to detail and in meeting deadlines is required.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in complex financial and statistical analysis and presentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Extensive knowledge of, and ability to use computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and database software is required.
  • Demonstrated success in training and developing staff; providing constructive performance, feedback and appraisals; and taking appropriate corrective action to address performance and conduct issues is required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.



Desired Qualifications

  • Working knowledge and experience with processing international financial transactions including wire transfers, processing employment eligibility verification forms, and monitoring DOS grants and budgets is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
