Job Description Summary



SUMMARY: Operates food packaging machine and palletizer efficiently in relation to material usage, product waste, and weight control. Performs sanitation duties of the work area including the machines.



Job Description



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Must be able to operate all machinery in the pack room in an efficient manner.

  • Orders packaging material (paper, poly, carton) from storage as needed.

  • Load packaging material into machine.

  • Performs weight control checks as necessary.

  • Ensures proper container sizing.

  • Records packaging machinery efficiencies and downtime.

  • Monitors line flow to packaging.

  • Monitors case and package codes: ensure correct code is used; coding equipment is functioning proper; and code is legible.

  • Maintains sanitation standards in package area.

  • Cleans packaging machines.

  • Will assist pack mechanics when needed.



SAFETY: Must have a complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules including but not limited to the lockout-tagout procedure, chemical hazards and the hearing conservation program. Must have good personal hygiene and be able to practice safe work habits.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


One to ninety shifts related training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:


Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate in English commensurate with the requirements of this position. _


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY:


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:


Operational knowledge of all packaging, casing, conveying and palletizing equipment in the package department.
