Dynamic Manufacturing has an opportunity for a Product Engineer who will become the subject matter expert for all assigned automotive drivetrain products. Responsible for all technical aspects of transmission or drivetrain components. Is the go-to person when product questions arise.  This includes, quality, applications, materials, manufacturing, process improvement, testing and validation procedures.

Responsibilities


  • Manage the launch of new product lines

  • If needed, manage the launch of new variants of existing product lines

  • Mentor and train less experienced Product Engineers

  • Create, manage, and maintain system documentation, A-Charts, BOMs, ECIs, and Build chart

  • Interface with the OEM customers and negotiate deadlines, scope of work, and project priorities, etc.  

  • Function as the lead Engineer for several product lines or a facility

  • Coordinate with Supply Chain to maintain and improve on quoted BOMs through review of component attrition rates

  • Provide technical knowledge regarding all components and functionality of all types of transmissions and drive units

  • Own, maintain, and improve tooling and technology (sub-assembly testers) of existing product lines

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Mechanical Designers, and Applications Engineers to create an efficient disassembly and assembly production line

  • Collaborates with the Test Engineers to determine and understand all test, controls, and limits for testing transmissions

  • Leads Lean, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, and Continuous Improvement activities in a bid to eliminate waste

  • Identify, and lead the effort to provide cost saving projects including salvage processes

  • Participate efforts in resolving production and quality problems relating to facilities, equipment, or processes

  • Leads meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in related field

  • Lead the effort in pursuing continuing education opportunities to ensure awareness of and to stay ahead of changing technology

  • Provide technical information as needed to all departments, including, but not limited to: sales, marketing, legal, test engineering, and manufacturing engineering

Job Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or other engineering related discipline or equivalent experience

Relative experience and demonstrated knowledge of:


  • Functionality of all types of automotive transmissions

  • Components of automotive transmissions and their functions

  • Hands on experience disassembling and resembling automotive transmissions

  • Documentation such as APQP, PFEMA, Control Plans, Process Flows

  • IATF 16949 systems, including understanding and adherence to the policies, procedures, and instructions

  • Solid of error proofing concepts and applications

  • Understanding of automotive test systems

  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Familiarity with Project Management tools

  • Organized, skilled in technical writing and thorough in documenting work

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Lean and continuous improvement mindset

  • Must be able to respond effectively to unanticipated issues, time-sensitive, and mission-critical production testers and gauges in a rapidly changing, high intensity environment

  • Must be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the engineering team, as well as with production personnel and senior management
