Job Summary:



The Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Coordinator partners with the Center for Nursing Excellence and collaborates with entities throughout Wellstar Health System to facilitate the implementation of a defined evidence-based practice methodology to improve care quality, patient/family outcomes, and strengthen the nursing practice environment. The EBP Coordinator uses personal expertise in nursing research and evidence-based practice to serve as a resource and role model for nurses, enhance the care delivery and nursing professional practice model, and foster a professional practice environment that drives efficient and high-quality care. He/she will remain abreast of advances in the areas of nursing and healthcare research and anticipate their translation into nursing practice. The EBP Coordinator will foster an environment of continuous learning and scientific inquiry, mentor nurses in the translation of new knowledge into the practice setting and sustain a culture in which evidence-based practice is central to the role of the professional nurse. He/she will motivate and support career progression and organizational commitment consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Wellstar Health System. The EBP Coordinator will collaboratively work to identify areas of opportunity in which evidence-based practices can be used to enhance clinical outcomes, and assist nurses with the discovery of evidence, project planning, implementation, and data analysis throughout the entire process of evidence-based practice implementation. He/she will partner with experienced and newly licensed RNs and key stakeholders to assess system needs, develop quality improvement and evidence-based projects, analyze outcome data, and communicate results to positively impact clinical outcomes across the system. He/she will serve as an expert resource, educator, mentor, leader, and evaluator to influence the professional role, competence, and growth of nurses in a variety of settings, and supporter of lifelong learning of nurses throughout their career.



Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:



- Shared Leadership a. Successfully works through the Shared Leadership model to develop strategies and ideas that encourage inquiry and positive change by promoting nurse engagement in evidence-based practice to deliver the highest quality nursing care across the System b. Promotes positive interdisciplinary partnerships and seeks opportunities to provide leadership for the design and standardization of treatment protocols, clinical interventions, and product evaluations across the System c. Promotes superior professional practice and ethics to ensure compliance/regulatory/practice standards are met. Advocates for the role of the professional nurse as a key member of the interdisciplinary team. Possesses advanced knowledge and articulates the professional scope and standards of nursing practice d. Demonstrates ability to lead change in a complex environment, ensuring the spread and integration of standards into practice using evidence-based practice e. Utilizes knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, Nursing Code of Ethics, regulatory agency requirements, current nursing theory, research, and practice to guide nursing practice and promote professional development 25%
- Teamwork a. The EBP Coordinator will liaise with the Nursing Innovation Council and the Wellstar Research Institute to ensure scholarly nursing activities, including implementation of evidence-based practice, meet all regulatory requirements and operate within the scope and standards of nursing practice. He/she will support the standards of the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, and the American Nurses Credentialing Centers (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) standards for newly licensed nurses. b. Serves as a resource for all staff and accepts additional responsibilities in specialty to support nursing excellence, clinical integration, and standardization across the System c. Works in tandem with leadership, medical staff, and nursing staff to evaluate, redesign and implement practice standards that optimize patient outcomes to improve patient safety and quality in nursing practice d. Delivers intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary support and mentoring to promote the profession of nursing by advancing clinical practice. Collaborates with Organizational Learning and CNOs in advancement of the career progression model that aligns practice excellence with recognition and incentives creating a learning environment that retains and rewards excellence in nursing e. Utilizes evidenced based practice and organizational and departmental data to affect change throughout the system using a continuous improvement model; provides leadership by connecting the healthcare system with quality measures to achieve safe, effective, holistic patient care 25%
- Exemplary Practice a) Seeks opportunities to advance knowledge and skills through formal and informal educational offerings. Conducts performance improvement activities using continuous improvement methodologies and develops /disseminates practice protocols to support clinical integration and standardization across the System. b) Possesses advance skills in the use of technology and provides leadership within interdisciplinary health care team on system-wide quality improvement task forces c) . Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research and performance improvement in support of nursing excellence across the System by monitoring progress toward goals, collaborating with operations as needed to establish countermeasures toward successful achievement d) Monitoring quality performance, through KPI, and benchmarking toward top decile performance on NDNQI, Truven, and others 20%
- Creative Innovations a. Advances clinical care practice, gaining interdisciplinary support to apply or translate evidence into practice and engages in scholarly activity such as research, publication and presentations - mentoring all clinical staff to do the same b. Uses technology and data to interpret and measure clinical outcomes and designs further processes of care (i.e., care delivery systems, standards of practice and performance outcomes) to enhance the same c. Poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence-based practice. Consults and serves as an expert in the conduction of research and evidence-based practice d. Supports a journey of excellence integrating best practice, and Magnet principles toward practice and performance readiness for ANCC, unit, Pathways, and Magnet recognition 20%
- Professional Development a. Represents the organization positively to the community, building credibility - is an active member of one's professional organization and mentors other clinicians to do this as well b. Serves to support, educate, and mentor current clinical staff and students ensuring that clinical processes of care are working as intended 10%



Required Minimum Education:



Graduate education in Nursing (MS, MSN, DNP, PhD) from an accredited school or university that is recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Required



Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.


  • Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact

  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor




Additional License(s) and Certification(s):




Required Minimum Experience:



Minimum 2 years of experience providing direct patient care as a nurse. Required and
Experience conducting evidence-based practice and other scholarly projects. Required and
Experience in nursing research Preferred



Required Minimum Skills:



Possess excellent verbal and written (English) communication and embrace change with excellent time management skills.
Knowledge of nursing theory, evidence-based communication skills, computer skills and relationship building.
Is a continuous learner who inspires others to also seek advance knowledge.
Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced env practice, and research required to provide leadership for performance improvement.
Compliance with the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses is required.
