Job Description:


Job Title: Assistant Supervisor of Custodial Services



Campus Location: Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a "home" location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)



Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide oversight for routine and non-routine cleaning assignments, and supervision of custodial lead workers. This position will also be responsible for the distribution and completion of daily event setups from the Event Management System, work order assignments from the work order system, and assisting in environmental, safety and health functions.



Essential Job Functions:



  • Organization and scheduling of cleaning operations that include daily routine activities, setups, and special events, as well as completing a set of assigned custodial tasks while directly supervising lead custodians and assisting in the supervision of all custodial staff.

  • Assist in Environmental Health and Safety functions, such as, but not limited to managing hazardous waste collection and disposal, investigating air quality and mold complaints, conducting safety inspections, maintaining spill prevention, control & countermeasure plan, bloodborne pathogen, and SDS program.

  • Identifies and maintains inventory of custodial supplies and submits a list of needed items each month to the Coordinator for procurement.

  • Identifies and assists in the completion of tasks and Event Setups, as recorded in the Events Management System and Work Order System.

  • Participates, conducts, and completes training programs identified to maintain regulatory compliance. Some training is issued from Human Resources, while some other training is identified as necessary for the safe, efficient completion of custodial assignments.

  • May perform other duties as required.



Required Qualifications:



  • Valid driver's license.


  • A high school diploma or an equivalent certificate


  • 2-4 years of experience in a related supervisory position


  • Mechanical aptitude to perform light maintenance, as needed


  • Ability to utilize phone system, Microsoft Outlook, and ERP system for training and communication purposes


  • Knowledge and ability to use vacuum, scrubber, ladder, carpet extraction machine, hand tools, chemical proportioning equipment, and laundry equipment


  • Normal working hours of 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday.




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in Supervision in an educational or commercial setting of 5 or more staff

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent has authority or responsibility for the supervision of others in non-exempt jobs, including scheduling, assigning tasks, and monitoring work activities. The position operates with limited direct supervision, and most tasks are performed without consulting others. Resources, policies, or a supervisor are available for consultation if needed. Work is checked largely for progress toward the completion of objectives.



Environment & Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to extreme heat, humidity, noise, and temperature changes. Occasional exposure to extreme cold. Due to the nature of the position, bodily injury could occur, including damage from flying debris, falls, or hearing damage from loud noises.



Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):



  • Ability to safely operate industrial cleaning tools and instruments

  • Hours can vary depending on the scope and nature of an event, as well as the number of workers present for preparation and/or closing.

  • Working on weekends can occur based on event schedules.
