Essential Functions



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned:




Mission and Collaboration:




  • Understand, support, and demonstrate the College's beliefs, values, mission, and vision.

  • Develop relationships and collaborate with all Jackson College campuses to align student life programs with the college's mission and strategic agenda.



Diversity and Inclusion:




  • Promote diversity and inclusion through campus events.



New Student Orientation and Engagement:




  • Assist with new student orientation and welcome events.



Student Leadership Development:




  • Offer development opportunities, workshops, and training for student leaders.



Programming and Events:




  • Plan monthly/weekly programming for all Jackson College students, focusing on commuter students.

  • Collaborate with Residence Life for special events and activities.



Program Evaluation and Improvement:




  • Evaluate program effectiveness and implement changes as needed.

  • Collect feedback and data to assess student life initiatives and identify areas for improvement.



Student Well-being and Support:




  • Coordinate health and wellness programs, mental health awareness campaigns, and recreational activities.

  • Support student well-being and contribute to student success and growth.



Budget Management:




  • Manage budgets for student life programs and events, ensuring efficient use of financial resources.



Communication and Collaboration:




  • Communicate regularly with the Executive Director of Athletics & Student Development.

  • Work collaboratively with Campus Safety, facilities, and other departments.



Student Organizations and Leadership:




  • Establish and maintain effective student relations and support student retention projects.

  • Advise, assist, and oversee student organizations and student government.

  • Coordinate recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of student employees.

  • Advise and assist student organization leaders through meetings, events, and leadership retreats.

  • Develop and implement plans and policies for student organizations.



Marketing and Promotion:




  • Collaborate with Marketing to advertise and promote student life activities and organizations, including the website.



Administration and Committee Participation:




  • Manage Harriet's Hub and Jackets for Jets, including inventory and organizing volunteers.

  • Participate in the Student Emergency Fund Committee.

  • Assist in establishing an annual plan for student life activities.



Intramural Program:




  • Organize and manage intramural programs across fall, spring, and summer terms.

  • Promote diversity and sportsmanship in recreational activities, ensuring participant safety.



General Responsibilities:




  • Maintain knowledge of college policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Provide excellent customer service and handle inquiries professionally.

  • Maintain office hours as required, including evenings and weekends for events.



Additional Duties:




  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics & Student Development.





CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS



Internal:
Frequent contact in an information-sharing capacity with faculty, staff, and students, especially in departments like Residence Life, Athletics, Student Services, Facilities Operations, Marketing, and Multi-Cultural Affairs.


External
: Regular contact with students and community members in a service-provider capacity, providing information and problem-solving. Communicate with JC stakeholders.

Education and/or Experience

-Associates Degree, equivalent credits or workforce credential required.
-Bachelors Degree preferred and two years in college/university setting working with students. -Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles, skill in communicating effectively with individuals from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds are needed.
-Possess a strong understanding and commitment to student development.




Computer Skills

Knowledge of personal computers and software including word processing, spreadsheets, and Data. Must demonstrate ongoing proficiency in computer use and reporting activities.




Customer Service

Demonstrates proactive communication and customer service strategies that align with JC's institutional values. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Demonstrates understanding of the role student life plays in student success/ retention.




Language Skills


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, action plans, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Good command of grammar




Mathematical Skills


Ability to calculate addition and subtraction and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Experience with budget management.




Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations




PHYSICAL DEMANDS
