Job Description:

The Richmond Community College Board of Trustees invites applicants for the position of President for Richmond Community College.  



The Presidential Search Committee will accept letters of interest and résumés until the position is filled. For best consideration, letters of interest in the position and résumés should be provided by July 23, 2024.

 


Desired Presidential Characteristics and Qualifications


The successful candidate will possess a master's degree from an accredited institution, with a doctorate or professional degree preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in higher education administration or comparable experience in private industry is required. Experience working with a publicly appointed board is preferred. The successful candidate will be required to reside in the College's service area (Richmond and Scotland County) within 6 months of employment.



The incoming president shall be a visionary, energetic, and ethical leader who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Board the following skills and experiences:

 


  • Successful performance in senior-level administrative positions in public higher education, private industry, or not-for profit organizations.

  • A student-centered approach to developing innovative programs, courses and support services needed to strengthen college completion and retention rates.

  • Possess a clear understanding of the North Carolina Community College mission and governance model.

  • An appreciation of the history, politics and culture of the college service area.

  • Ability to lead an institution with multiple locations in a rural setting, creating a culture conducive to employee effectiveness and student success.

  • Skill to work effectively with the Board of Trustees to recommend and implement their policies, setting the standard for successful college governance.

  • Capacity to build and lead the college's Leadership Team, connecting, motivating and inspiring all employees to create an environment focused on effective teaching and learning.

  • Proven experience in adoption of effective technologies and construction of campus facilities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with superior writing and oral communication abilities. Serve as the primary advocate for the needs of the college at the county and state levels, publicly recognized as the face and voice of the college.

  • Demonstrated skills in fiscal management, budget development, strategic planning, and regional accreditation.

  • Capability to lead the college's efforts in local economic development, partnering with business, industry and government to grow and retain jobs in the service area.

  • Successful resource development experience through fund raising, "friend raising" and grant writing.

  • Crisis management, communication, and problem-solving skills needed for a complex and dynamic organization.

  • Salary will be based on the North Carolina Community College System's presidential salary scale, plus a local supplement.
