ISS Stoxx is hiring! ISS Stoxx is seeking a Securities Class Actions Lawyer to join our team. ISS Securities Class Action Services (SCAS), a unit of Institutional Shareholder Services, has provided services to help investors manage the securities-related class action process for more than 30 years. The critical claims filing, research, and portfolio monitoring solutions help investors recover funds from shareholder related litigation (class actions, group actions, SEC fair Funds, antitrust settlements, etc) throughout the world.

ISS’ global client base, consisting of institutional asset managers, pension funds, hedge funds, and high net worth wealth management firms require high quality insight and intelligence, including for to global, opt-in cases which often bring more requirements for participation (due to differing legal guidelines in various countries).

In this role, you will become the securities litigation expert in the SCAS unit and a critical member of the SCAS leadership team, providing insights into business and marketing strategy.

As a securities litigation industry expert, you will ideally bring:

  • High integrity
  • Excellent collaboration skills – SCAS is a closely knit team that works well together.
  • Deep knowledge and working experience with securities class actions. That could be with a law firm, a 3rd party filer, a litigation funder, an institutional investor, or claims administrator.
  • A genuine interest in staying current on global developments in securities class actions, group actions and opportunities for institutional investors to recover funds.
  • A proactive ability to turn your industry knowledge and expertise into thought leadership and new strategic business opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills:
    • Present to clients and prospects, including in meetings, webinars and industry events, conferences etc.
    • Create and execute on written thought leadership plans, including short updates, eg on LinkedIn, longer pieces, SCAS’ Annual Studies. Some will be done on your own, some in collaboration with others within in SCAS organization and the larger ISS STOXX organization.
    • Internal with rest of SCAS Leadership Team and the broader organization.
  • Good commercial business judgement.
  • A JD is helpful, but not required if you have deep, relevant experience.
  • Strong industry network.

You will be working on:

Client-Related

  • Help assist clients and provide expertise for clients on legal matters relating to securities class actions and related shareholder litigation, including litigation in different jurisdictions around the world.
  • Help present the SCAS’ product offerings to current and prospective clients with the sales and leadership team.
  • Provide unbiased analysis and guidance to clients on potentially opting out of U.S. actions.
  • Respond and interact with clients related to their various global opt-in litigation questions.
  • Educate current and prospective clients as to the nuances of investor-related antitrust actions.
  • Communicate with prospective clients as novel or complex issues in contracting arise.
  • In all the above, help clients navigate the challenges that securities related litigation presents to asset managers and asset owners.
  • Note: The role will provide legal guidance to our clients, but not legal advice.

Strategy-Related

  • Be a member of the SCAS leadership team – participate and provide input on potential product enhancements (e.g., additional case coverage, new product offerings).
  • Contribute to SCAS strategy and new initiatives.

Internal / Operational

  • Work closely with the operations team in providing guidance and added content into SCAS’ Global Litigation Analysis and Jurisdictional Risk Analysis.
  • Product owner and point person for SCAS’ Opt-Out Monitoring Service.
  • Critical team member on special cases – adding input from a legal perspective if / when SCAS should add to its claims filing offering.
  • Work with operations team in resolving claim deficiencies or rejections of significant magnitude.
  • Handle with ISS Legal and sales team novel or complex issues in client contracts.

Industry / Regulators

  • Liaise with law firms and litigation funders managing litigation outside the US, ensuring clients’ interests are protected.
  • Liaise with government entities (e.g., the US SEC) to provide input into maximizing client recovery and together with SCAS Business Head lobby for SCAS interests.

Marketing

  • In charge of thought leadership, including authoring white papers, annual reports, ISS SCAS insights, and “This Month in Securities Class Actions”; and presenting at webinars and industry conferences.
  • Proactively partner on speaking opportunities of value to clients and prospects.
  • Help create relevant material that will benefit clients and help reinforce SCAS’ position as a leader in the US and global securities class actions markets.

Reporting:

  • This role sits within the ISS SCAS Business unit, reports to the Head of SCAS, and is part of the SCAS Leadership Team. It also works closely with SCAS Operations, Research, Sales, Marketing, and collaborates with the ISS corporate Legal Team.

This role is only being recruited in New York City.

Base salary: The New York City expected base pay range is $180,000 - $210,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and level of education.

The role is bonus or sales incentive eligible.
