Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance, Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards, Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc... allowed, Cold Room/Freezers -22degrees, Loud Noises (Equipment/Machinery), Office, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.), Will work with hazardous/toxic materials

How will you make an impact



Thermo Fisher Scientific's Clinical Diagnostics Fremont location is seeking an EHS Specialist II who will be responsible for supporting the Environmental Health and Safety initiatives for the site. EHS Specialist II role is a hands-on individual contributor who will support EH&S program teams from various departments within the Fremont site



What will you do



Maintain EHS policies, programs and procedures that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and corporate standards


Be a safety advocate and proactively look for opportunities to improve safety programs and educate and encourage employees to do the same applying lean tools


Serve as a technical resource to the company in sophisticated areas of EHS Compliance, risk management, hazardous materials/waste, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, and/or ergonomics


Lead monthly Gemba walks finding opportunities related to EH&S


Coordinate handling/removal of hazardous materials and waste (profile waste streams, maintain manifests, and compile environmental reporting)


Perform periodic audits to identify potential environmental and workplace hazards, program deficiencies, liabilities and help with inspections


Oversee the site's Accident and Incident reporting process. Participate in incident investigations, ensuring root cause and countermeasure identification is completed to eliminate future injury


Coordinate all Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health related training


Generate regular reporting of all EHS metrics and key performance indicators both at the site and corporate level


Maintain routine safety and environmental reports and records (OSHA logs, HMBP, SDSs, etc.)


Assist with changes to manufacturing/office areas to ensure established safety standards are met


Submit purchase requisitions for safety related equipment or PPE.



How will you get here




Education / Experience



Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related scientific field such as Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering


2 to 5 years in an EH&S role, preferably in the FDA regulated/medical device industry



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Working knowledge of regulations pertaining to EH&S and related compliance requirements with strong attention to details


Ability to proactively anticipate and resolve regulatory questions, to meet expected timelines for regulatory requirements


Ability to lead and facilitate projects to conclusion, adapt to changes in the work environment and demonstrate flexibility


Ability to multi-task keeping company objectives and demonstrate appropriate sense of urgency with regards to responsiveness with addressing any high risk compliance issues, and handle risk proactively


Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Project


Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $75,000.00-$100,000.00.
