Job Overview
The Quality Engineer actively participates in and supports a work environment that is focused on quality, productivity and teamwork. Works together with other department heads and plant employees to optimize processes and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Customer and Supplier Quality
Communicate with customers and suppliers on quality related concerns, quality systems improvement, and continuous improvement projects
Coordinate and execute on activities for customer production part submission and approval (PPAP)
Coordinate and execute on activities for supplier part submission and approval
Problem Solving
Lead problem solving activities to address customer and internal quality concerns
Lead and participate in problem solving activities to address deficiencies in production performance vs. goals
Communicate with external and internal customers to resolve production performance issues
Work with all levels of stakeholders to design and implement process solutions such as trim fixtures or other products which will improve efficiency.
Continuous Improvement
Lead and participate in proactive continuous improvement activities including scrap reduction and cost reduction
Contribute waste elimination suggestions and variation reduction initiatives
Quality Standards
Work with customers and suppliers to establish visual and functional quality standards
Quality Systems
Oversee quality system documentation including work instructions, control plans, and check sheets
Other duties as assigned
Must be willing to travel as needed to customer and supplier locations
Train associates to quality standards and processes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced analytical abilities
AIAG Core Tools
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001 or IATF 16949
ISO or IATF internal auditor/lead auditor
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
Advanced skills in MS Office
Good communication and interpersonal abilities
Self-motivated with a results-driven approach
Exposure to lean manufacturing
CMM operation/programming a plus
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field preferred or equivalent work experience.
Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt designation preferred.
Quality Engineer Certification (CQE) preferred.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in an engineering role or equivalent experience
Working Conditions
Plant floor and office environments; able to work in hot humid environment for extended periods of time as well as around loud noises are required
Physical Requirements
Need to be able to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods of time throughout the day within a manufacturing floor and office environment; occasionally lifting of parts weighing up to 50 pounds alone and parts more than 50 pounds with assistance; must be able to operate power tools and equipment
