What We're Looking For:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Barge Design Solutions will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization's financial and strategic trajectory. This key leadership position will oversee all financial operations, from strategic planning and risk management to financial reporting and compliance. Expertise will be crucial in guiding the firm through phases of growth and innovation, including potential mergers and acquisitions. Beyond traditional financial management, the role will be instrumental in nurturing our employee-owned culture. This involves aligning financial strategies with our Employee Stock Ownership Program to ensure that the firm's growth not only enhances business performance but also benefits our employee-owners.


The CFO will provide consultation on alternative revenue structures and financial metrics to support our management consulting practice and software solution sales. Responsible for developing and implementing innovative financial strategies that support these areas, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will play a key role in guiding the company's financial future, ensuring strong balance sheet management, execution of strategic growth plans, and upholding our employee-owned culture.



Responsibilities:




Strategic Leadership:



  • Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute the company's strategic financial plan.

  • Provide expert financial guidance on organic growth initiatives, mergers & acquisitions, and other strategic investments.

  • Optimize the company's capital structure, ensuring access to adequate capital for growth while maintaining a strong balance sheet.

  • Lead the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risk, ensure compliance, and drive process efficiencies.



  • Actively participate in ownership transition planning, ensuring the company's employee ownership model remains sustainable and equitable.




Financial Management:



  • Oversee all aspects of financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and treasury management.

  • Provide accurate and timely financial information to the CEO, board of directors, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement financial models and analyses to support strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Partner with outside consultant to complete annual company valuation process.

  • Manage relationships with external auditors, bankers, and other financial partners.




Team Leadership and Development:



  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.

  • Attract, develop, and retain top financial talent.

  • Mentor and coach team members to reach their full potential.

  • Implement best practices in financial management and reporting.

  • Create a forward-thinking finance function that anticipates and addresses the company's evolving needs.




Education & Experience Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive financial leadership experience; experience in a high-growth environment, employee-owned firm, and or the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree or professional certification (CPA or CFA) is preferred.

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis, reporting to support business needs, and forecasting tools.

  • Strong understanding of corporate financial law, tax strategies, and risk management practices.

  • Strong understanding of capital markets, M&A, and ownership transition strategies.

  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams based on integrity, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Strategic thinker with a strong business acumen and ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.

  • Understanding of the AEC industry's business cycles, regulatory environment, and unique financial challenges, such as project-based accounting, job costing, and long-term contract management

  • Experience with multi-state financial operations.

  • Expertise in financial management disciplines including accounting, finance, budgeting, and cost control principles.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial statements and data effectively, facilitating sound decision-making.

  • Proven ability to contribute to strategic planning and executive decision-making, providing leadership and direction to the finance team and broader organization.

  • Capability to guide the firm through growth phases, including mergers, acquisitions, and expansions.

  • Skills in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating financial risks.

  • Knowledge of legal financial requirements and compliance issues pertinent to the AEC industry

  • Proven ability to serve as key interface with financial institutions and other partners, including auditors and firm valuation consultants.
