Crane Currency has an immediate position opening for a Controls Engineer based out of Alpharetta, GA.

How you will make an impact:

This individual will develop next generation electromechanical systems for the next generation manufacturing platform and research equipment for enabling new products, by designing and implementing custom hardware, vision systems, closed loop control systems, and manufacturing equipment. This position will also focus on process optimization to improve and automate tasks in new product manufacturing through collaboration with Alpharetta / Nashua R&D and Operations teams.

  • Support R&D innovation team with the design, building, and integration of rapid prototype equipment, systems, and press upgrades.
  • Troubleshooting to identify and resolve technical issues related to machine functionality, electrical systems, mechanical components, and system integration through systematic problem-solving.
  • Managing small, medium, and large projects and ensure successful execution.
  • Preparation of detailed documentation, including engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOM), assembly instructions, and user manuals, to ensure proper understanding, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the built systems.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, design, and develop machine systems that meet project specifications, considering factors such as functionality, performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Adherence to relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols while designing and building machines and systems
  • Actively assessing safety risks daily and ensuring that any safety concerns are immediately reported.

Knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in manufacturing, electrical or mechanical engineering or commensurate experience.
  • Hands-on machine and systems engineering experience that includes assembling, integrating, and testing mechanical and electrical components to construct machines and systems according to engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics or user requirements.
  • Ability to keep abreast of the latest advancements in machine building technologies, automation, and industry best practices to propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing projects timelines, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring on-time completion and adherence to budget constraints.
  • Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for creating detailed engineering drawings or models.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles, including knowledge of sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems.
  • Software experience in MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, or C#

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in an industrial R&D or similar technical role
  • Experience with Robotics / Pick and place systems
  • Cleanroom experience
  • Experience with roll-to-roll manufacturing
  • Optics design and alignment skills
  • Metrology, measurements & testing
