Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Communications and Marketing, the Digital Engagement & Web Development Coordinator will support Meharry Medical College's communications efforts through the strategic engagement of a variety of audiences across multiple channels and campaigns. This will include developing and managing projects from design to completion including email marketing, social media, website development, digital collateral, and content marketing.


The Digital Engagement & Web Development Coordinator will collaborate with colleagues across advancement, communications, and Meharry's five schools to develop compelling digital content and campaigns to advance the College's mission. This will include digital communications supporting Campaign 150, the College's $350 million capital campaign, which is scheduled to close in 2026, the 150th anniversary of Meharry.



Daily Operations



  • Collaborate with Associate Vice President, Communications and Marketing to develop and implement an annual digital communications plan that will increase brand strength among all of the College's audiences, including alumni, students, faculty, staff, and the broader Meharry community.

  • Plan, research, and create engaging digital content suited to the needs of specific audiences and situations, on deadline, for multiple channels, including email, social media, website, digital advertisements, blogs, webinars, etc.

  • Create a variety of graphic elements and templates for use on Meharry's website, email, social media, and direct mail, such as infographics, cover images, flyers, postcards, etc.

  • Develop content for and manage updates to optimize the experience on the College's website.

  • Strategically create content and manage Meharry's social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) to share Meharry's story and engage with audiences.

  • Track and present monthly social media and web analytics reports.

  • Assist with event photography and video production/project management, including creating/editing in-house videos as assigned, as well as coordinating with outside freelancers on video projects. Utilize transcription services and freelance translators to provide captioning for videos.

  • Edit copy written by department members, freelancers, and other contributors to improve sense, style, accuracy, grammatical correctness, and adherence to Meharry's editorial guidelines and messaging.

  • Maintain a highly coordinated asset management system for images, videos, and ads.

  • Develop deep content knowledge on Meharry's vision, programs, and funding priorities across campus.

  • Build a strong network of collegial partnerships with communications, advancement and departmental representatives both within Institutional Advancement and across the College, such as deans, faculty, officers and other communications staff, to consult on messaging strategies that inspire giving and coordinate communications projects.

  • Stay current on marketing industry standards and innovation through a commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.




Required Skills



  • Two or more years of progressive social media, digital marketing and/or strategic communications experience, preferable in higher education.

  • Experience in web design, video production, social media marketing, and email marketing.

  • Demonstrated design skills and experience working in Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Excellent management, planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of current trends in marketing and communications.

  • Strong communication and creative skills across multiple mediums, ranging from written words to video and graphic design.

  • Ability to be a persuasive advocate for Meharry's priorities and present information in a clear and compelling manner to a variety of constituencies.

  • Ability to use current desktop office technologies proficiently and to adapt to and use future technologies.

  • Sound judgment, tact, and ability to handle highly confidential information.

  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under deadline pressures in a high-volume office.

  • Authentic appreciation for the role that Meharry Medical College plays as a premier medical college and a Historically Black College and University institution.




Required Education and Experience



  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
