Job Description:

Position OverviewCounseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is looking for a Graduate Assistant (GA) to support our Outreach and Prevention efforts on KU's Lawrence campus, including our HOPE@CAPS peer educator program. HOPE@CAPS employs students to be Mental Health Peer Educators (MHPE) who provide Peer Support opportunities for KU students. The GA will be responsible for coordinating and leading a group of MHPE's as they fulfil the roles of MHPE's in the HOPE@CAPS program. The GA will also help develop and present Outreach materials with/to campus partners and student organizations. Lastly, when needed, the GA will be responsible for providing operational support to the CAPS administrative team.Job DescriptionOutreach Responsibilities:


  • Help develop regular campus wide events promoting Mental Health Awareness and awareness of resources.

  • Provide presentations to campus partners and student organizations regarding CAPS services and other Mental Health topics.

  • Help develop, plan, organize, and implement CAPS signature events.

  • Operational support for CAPS administrative functions.



HOPE@CAPS Responsibilities:

  • Attend HOPE@CAPS weekly meetings.

  • Complete the NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) Training.

  • Manage various social media pages including Instagram and Facebook.

  • Provide oversight of HOPE@CAPS student workers.

  • Perform regular check-ins of MHPE during scheduled shifts.

  • Cover MHPE shifts when student workers are not available.

  • Help recruit new MHPE's.

  • Assist in training of new MHPE's.

Required Qualifications

  1. Experience in using Microsoft office products such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and with Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

  2. Demonstrated ability to create and manage CAPS presence on social media, including Instagram and Facebook.

  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.

  4. Comfort and skill with public speaking as evidenced in the interview process.
  5. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be preenrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Preferred Qualifications

  1. ·Experience working in a mental health clinic or related field

  2. ·Experience in supervision and workforce management
