The Post-Baccalaureate Fellow (PBF) in the Biology department will assist in the preparation of pedagogical and teaching materials for the Biology 200/202 lab courses and contribute to other tasks related to science teaching labs. During the summer research period (2025), the PBF will have the opportunity join a departmental research lab to pursue an independent project and/or development of new research skills. The PBF will work closely with Drs. Kristine Grayson and Angie Hilliker in supporting the Biology 200/202 courses. This is a limited term position with the potential to extend for a second year.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepping materials and supplies for BIOL200/202 laboratory experiments
Piloting and revising BIOL 200/202 laboratory experiments
Ordering lab materials, keeping inventory, cleaning/organizing before and after labs
Maintaining cells and organisms required for course experiments
Driving students in a University van to and from field sites
Assisting lab managers in duties associated with lab prep, equipment, and maintenance
Working in-person M-F from 8:30-5:00 for the above listed duties, with flexibility to adjust working hours for starting or finishing lab experiments on weekends or evenings, as needed.
Occasionally fill in for teaching assistants or proctor exams
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong scientific research skills, including experience with cellular and molecular techniques
Comfort or willingness to work in field settings and with organisms
Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of fundamental concepts in Biology
Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at the same time
Excellent organizational skills, including record keeping
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work independently
Ability to work as a team player
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Interest in working with college students
Ability to carry field gear short distances over uneven terrain
Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing and comfort driving a van
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Biology or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Experience in a research lab setting preferred
WORK HOURS:
Full-time, non-exempt position
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week; some evening and weekend hours required
This is a limited term position for one year (2nd year extension may be possible)
