At Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., we are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong work behaviors to join our team as a Staff Scientist in Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation Research and Development department. As a Staff Scientist, you will have a crucial role in developing innovative ion chromatography column and sample preparation products. Responsibilities:



  • Conduct exploratory R&D activities for chromatography column and sample preparation consumable products

  • Generate, investigate, and explore new ideas and concepts by defining experiments, building, debugging, and characterizing prototypes

  • Lead new product development efforts, including prototype design and development, functional testing, characterization, scale-up efforts, and manufacturability assessments

  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to product development teams, strategically and tactically guiding R&D activities to develop highly differentiated ion chromatography separation media, columns, and sample preparation products

  • Serve as a technical resource to management and cross-functional teams in the areas of ion-exchange chromatography consumables, resin synthesis, modification, and characterization

  • Collaborate with product management and operations representatives to provide technical support for ion chromatography column and sample preparation consumables

  • Deliver new product design and application messaging internally, at conferences, and during interactions with customers through accomplished presentations

  • Contribute to the scientific community by writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, invention disclosures, and possible patent applications


Requirements:



  • PhD or Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent field of science.

  • With a PhD degree, at least 2 years of relevant industry experience required.

  • With a Master's degree, at least 4 years of relevant industry experience required

  • Proficiency in polymer synthesis and hands-on experience using characterization tools such as particle size analysis, surface area measurements, and other related techniques

  • Knowledge of liquid chromatography principles and separation materials

  • Well-versed in analytical chemistry principles and analytical techniques

  • High level of technology fluency to understand and properly communicate the technology associated with assigned products

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills

  • Excellent organization and planning skills

  • Ability to make independent decisions

  • Ability to accurately plan, define, and manage project tasks

  • Strong ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a dynamic and fast-paced setting

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $123,899.00-$150,000.00.


This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
