The Aerospace Structures section of the Structural Engineering Department focuses on the development and life management of military aircraft. It provides turn-key research and development services, state-of-the-art structural analysis capability, and full-scale vehicle to small-scale component testing for all segments of the aerospace community. The Aerospace Structures Section also has a long-established history in supporting Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs (ASIP).
Objectives of this Role:
Work under the direction of Engineer(s) to assemble component and full scale structural tests.
Maintain/support structural tests via hydraulic maintenance, test reconfiguration, and data acquisition.
Provide opportunities to work with various weapons systems.
Provide opportunities to apply and utilize various test instrumentation (strain gages, string potentiometers, and load cells).
A strong interest in structures and/or aerospace testing is desirable.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Perform hands-on detailed, work in a laboratory environment.
Work in a team environment to solve problems that do not have a clear solution path.
Setup, tear down, and maintain structural tests.
Install, document, and photograph test instrumentation.
Setup and troubleshoot hydraulic controls and pumps.
Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a mechanical aptitude.
2-10 years: Hands on mechanical skills. Must be able to use hand tools, power hand tools and precision measurement/alignment tools (micrometers, multimeters, tape measures).
0-2 years: Prior work experience in hydraulics, plumbing, instrumentation or electrical systems desired.
1-2 years: Basic computer skills.
1-2 years: Communication and time management skills.
A valid/clear driver's license is required.
Special Requirements:
Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
