JOB DUTIES


- Fulfill the Quality Assurance responsibilities under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager for the Materials Sampling and Testing and Quality Assurance Program.
- Work directly with field personnel, Project Managers, and Inspectors to coordinate the construction schedule with necessary testing.
- Visit project sites in Districts 3 and 8 at times to obtain materials and provide project support.
- Maintain files for test results and associated information to provide necessary documentation and correspondence.
- Document tests in AASHTOWare Project.
- Provide advice and assistance to field construction personnel.
- Carry out Independent Assurance testing for the construction and testing Quality Assurance program.
- Act as a liaison between Materials and Research and field construction personnel regarding materials and testing procedures.
- Conduct a continuous surveillance of materials used for highway construction and maintenance.
- Instruct and advise field personnel on the required use of manuals and sampling guides for materials.
- Assist in the educational programs for training construction personnel.
- Primary sample compliance oversite for the Quality Assurance Program for District 3 and District 8.
- Perform miscellaneous duties, tests, studies, research, equipment calibrations, etc. within the work area and other sections within the Materials and Research Division and other duties assigned by your supervisor.



Requirements / Qualifications:




Minimum Qualifications:High school education or the equivalent and experience in highway construction inspection or materials testing or other laboratory operations.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with laboratory and field test equipment.

  • Two years' experience reading and interpreting NDOT highway and bridge construction plans.

  • Two years' experience in materials testing.

  • Certified in NDOR Asphalt, Soils, Aggregate, and ACI testing.

  • Technician training.

  • Light machinery and equipment operating experience.

  • Experience using basic hand tools to perform simple mechanical activities.

  • Experience working with Microsoft systems.

  • Experience overseeing multiple projects at once.




Other: A valid driver's license is required. Must be available for overnight travel and occasional long workdays.



KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES



  • Knowledge of test procedures for testing of concrete, soils, asphalt, and aggregates.

  • Proficient computer skills (specifically computer applications in Microsoft Windows: Microsoft Excel and Word).

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations to determine simple statistics and equations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, contractors, and NDOT project personnel.

  • Must be able to safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload various objects, equipment, materials, and supplies (up to 75 lbs.).

  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and work in outdoor temperature extremes.

  • Must be able to work at heights (on or around bridges).
