Position Overview

The Principal Network Engineer is responsible for managing and troubleshooting Wintrust’s network, running reports on network health and usage, providing input and completing tasks on major technology projects and providing technical support to internal staff and teams. He or she will assist network architects with design and implementation of network technologies. The role requires strict adherence to Wintrust’s Network standards, policies, processes and procedures and may require some travel to remote locations in the Chicago and outlying area footprint of operations. This role is responsible for providing guiding principles and leadership to the Network engineering team. Guiding technical solutions, providing proactive assistance on project based activities. General duties include leading buildout of solutions to standards as defined by the organization. Partners with management and other engineers to provide technical support using their background to take on work assignments the team is engaged in. Strong people skills and the ability to balance a large workload are essential. This position does have direct reports responsibility for Network Engineering resources.

Key Accountabilities


  • Lead a team of Engineers to identify and build out necessary long-term strategy for the team to manage and maintain security compliance for the enterprise corporate network (WAN/LAN)


  • Assist in defining and documenting network best practices and support procedures, and support company defined change management and other standards processes


  • Strong customer focus and management of client expectations; ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in IT’s knowledge of and concern for users’ business needs. Shows signs of guiding and offering problem solving for group and peers


  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to present and explain technical information to diverse types of audiences (management, users, vendors, and technical staff) in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding Ability to write clear proposals and technical documents


  • Strong interpersonal skills at all levels of management and ability to motivate employees/teams to apply skills and techniques to solve dynamic problems


  • Monitoring activity and service levels, ensuring stability, performance and security of network. Analyze network security requirements and implement accordingly


  • Oversee and manage partner services that provide network-based services to the organization


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years equivalent experience


  • CCIE or CISSP certification preferred, but not required


  • Experienced leader in Network Infrastructure & Security


  • Previous experience with Cisco Technologies including ISE, DNA, SNA, Meraki and/or Traditional wireless, SD-WAN, SD-Access, ACI, etc.


  • Experience with DNS, Route/Switch and other Networking components
