Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Range: $75,000- $84,000 based on experience



Position Summary: The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering seeks to fill two (2) Visiting Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, beginning July 1st, 2024. The successful candidate will hold an earned MS and/or be registered in a PhD program in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering or related discipline with the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate engineering courses. Review of applications will begin immediate and continue until the positions are filled. Screening interviews will be conducted via teleconferencing. The selected candidate is expected to contribute towards advancing the mission and vision of both the department and the Coulter School of Engineering. The standard teaching load for this position is three courses per semester with no more than two new preparations per semester.



General Purpose: 1) Teaching and Curriculum Development; 2) Mentorship and guidance of undergraduate students; and 3) Service.



Position Responsibilities:



Teaching & Curriculum Development: Deliver undergraduate courses in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The Department has openings in the field of: Fundamentals of aerospace engineering; Introduction to engineering design; Dynamical systems; Aerospace structures; Orbital mechanics; Statics; Strength of materials; Heat transfer; and Aerodynamics.



Advising and Mentorship: Provide academic advising to undergraduate students on their progress to successful completion of the B.Sc. (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Major).



Service: Participate in department services activities and contribute to the development of department initiatives and programs.

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:
Earned MS and/or Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineer or related discipline. Ph.D. candidates wishing to explore an academic career in teaching, will be considered.



Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience at the university level of courses in Fundamentals of aerospace engineering; Introduction to engineering design; Dynamical systems; Aerospace structures; Orbital mechanics; Statics; Strength of materials; Heat transfer; Aerodynamics, or an allied/related field. Applicants with over 5 years of industry experience related to the courses listed are highly desired.



Experience:


Minimum of 3 years preferred. Previous teaching experience is desirable/preferred, or a commitment to teaching excellence and a willingness to learn new teaching techniques.
