We are seeking a full-time Senior Aviation Pilot Instructor in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership, project management, and subject matter expertise on key projects, processes, and market areas for the Aviation Training Department. You will provide customer service, technical support and training to internal and external customers including Garmin dealers, OEMs, fleets, and pilots and lead the development, prioritization, coordination, and implementation of pilot training programs and department initiatives.
Essential Functions
Assist in developing content for classroom instruction, seminars, and electronic content, including developing department standards and training other Aviation Pilot Instructors
Become highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin avionic products and maintain expert operational proficiency with Garmin avionics
Develop & conduct instructor-led training classes, webinars and seminars to Garmin dealers, OEMs, Aviation Product Support associates, aviation departments across Garmin and other customers in the United States and Internationally
Provide avionics operations support to Garmin customers via in-person, online, phone, and email
Forecast, develop and update pilot training courses associated with the explanation of existing or new products / services
Collaborate with Directors, Managers, Supervisors and System Engineers to determine internal/external training needs
Provide support for OEM training programs involving Garmin avionics
Teach multiple courses involving highly technical material over short time frames (one week or less)
Act as liaison between customer and associates of other departments within Garmin
Monitor, document, and report failure trends in Garmin equipment and identify/recommend improvements in Garmin products, documentation, and procedures
Able to travel and represent Garmin at industry and professional meetings and conferences
Flexibility to travel domestically or internationally (up to 25% of time)
Develop, schedule, and execute real world training profiles for internal LOFT and other programs
Instruct Pilot Operations associates in the operation of the equipment, through Capstone event and other, to help them better support customers
Train and mentor Aviation Training Instructors
Serve as contact with FAA, EASA, and other regulatory and governmental organizations on pilot training initiatives involving avionics
Support Sales at various events answering technical questions and interfacing with dealers, customers, and end-users
Manage the acquisition/use of assets (image, video, or tangible) and develop tools/manage assets for new programs
Coordinate and/or assist in executing aviation training responsibilities for high profile training events and tradeshows
Develop/organize training syllabi, training content, interactive courseware, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials associated with the introduction of new and existing products and services
Contribute to development strategies for projects/programs
Research and test software/tools for classroom and internal team enrichment
Organize and execute training events (involving more than one instructor) to include material and associate movements, schedule of events, and coordinate classroom content delivery
Conduct continuous training needs analysis with leaders, managers, and subject matter experts across Garmin and the industry to determine internal/external training needs
Act as an assistant with Hybrid Courses to include operation of classroom automation and technical systems
Update/troubleshoot Garmin desktop training kiosks for external customers and internal training purposes
Act as on-screen talent and subject matter expert for Garmin images, video and audio assets, and eLearning courses
Review pilot's guides, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for completeness, technical accuracy, and provide input on improvements
Provide customer and operational input to other Garmin teams to help improve Customer Experience
Provide Tier 3 Level Support to Garmin Avionic Customers by helping research/develop solutions to new or unknown issues
Lead the analysis, design and development and organization of low-to-moderately complex web-based content, interactive courseware, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials
Plan and develop projects to meet time and scope/quality objectives
Refine and/or expand and provide recommendations to refine and/or expand training programs and products to better support customers and the aviation community, broaden customer reach, and enhance Garmin Aviation efforts
Benchmark aviation and other industry training content development methods, standards, and practices
Analyze low-to-moderately complex new pilot training programs including training syllabi and other products associated with the introduction of new avionics or services
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field AND a minimum of 4 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 8 years equivalent relevant education and experience
Internal candidates must have a minimum of 6 months as an Aviation Pilot Trainer 2 or superior demonstrated performance as evaluated by a management panel
Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument (or military equivalent)
Must demonstrate a superior customer-oriented attitude
Must demonstrate proficiency using a presentation program (Prezi, Power Point, Keynote etc.)
Must be positive, detail/team oriented, organized, a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize/work proactively in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Ability to develop training products that are clear, engaging, technically accurate, and follow a logical sequence
Ability and product knowledge to tailor system information, based on available time and customer airframe, into a coherent presentation that meets customer needs
Ability to manage and tailor a class with a wide range of Garmin and industry avionics experience
Comfortable conducting training with audiences varying from one-on-one, to standard classes of 10 - 20 students, and to larger audiences with 300 or more attendees
Must possess experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics
Demonstrated knowledge of Garmin avionics products
Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Possess product knowledge to tailor system information, based on available time and customer airframe, into a coherent presentation that meets customer needs
Demonstrated project management skills to ensure training programs and products are developed and implemented to meet cost, time, and scope/quality objectives
Desired Qualifications
Customer service experience
Experience in developing interactive, multimedia training materials
Working knowledge of Microsoft office
Understand engineering documents such as install manuals and wiring diagrams
Advanced understanding of PowerPoint
Commercial Pilot certificate with Instrument rating (or military equivalent)
Experience with multiple Garmin avionics platforms or systems
A&P License
Knowledge of competitive avionics
Practical experience in post-secondary or adult education
Basic computer science understanding
Comfortable using audio visual equipment
1500+ flight hours, turbine aircraft experience, Part 61 and/or Part 141 flight instructor experience, Part 91, Part 121, and/or Part 135 operational experience, or type ratings
Master's Degree in aviation-related field, business management, engineering, adult education, or position-related field
Training department or training provider experience
