The Head of Bioprocessing is accountable for the strategy development and commercial execution of the Bioprocessing Value Chain. This role is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for the Bioprocessing Value Chain. The person in this role will directly oversee the development of the commercial infrastructure, processes, and capabilities required to execute the strategy.  They will be accountable for the performance of the Bioprocessing Value Chain and delivery of strategic initiatives.

This position serves as a key member of the BU leadership team and operates at a strategic and senior level, applying experience and knowledge of strategy development, marketing, and sales in Bioscience markets while leading a highly engaged team that is focused on execution, innovation, and the customer experience.

Position is fully remote, can be based anywhere in the world (US East Coast preferred)

Key responsibilities:


  • Builds a capable, agile, and global Bioprocessing organization with the technical skills, experience and know-how to define the optimal strategy, marketing, and commercial processes for Lonza Bioscience and implement appropriate systems and controls to sustainably deliver results.


  • Defines and executes processes for strategy development (visioning, market modeling, market/ competitive intel, prioritization, alignment, governance) with clear responsibilities and metrics that drive strategic alignment in the business and to other key stakeholder groups (e.g., operations, etc)


  • Sets the long-range Bioprocessing business plan, working across the organization to translate vision and strategy into a long-term, executable plan with identified resources, timelines, and value creation


  • Facilitates prioritization of the programs/ projects/ activities within the long-term business plan (e.g., inorganic priorities, R&D priorities, etc) with the BU LT.


  • Manages the lifecycle of the current portfolio, in addition to development and execution of tactical and strategic marketing programs, to define and deliver new products.


  • Provides in depth current market data and analytics across the BU to enable informed decisions on market drivers, customer needs, technologies, competitive landscape, and support customer-focused positioning, value proposition and messaging.


  • Provides providing metrics and ROI on marketing programs and investment initiatives.


  • Directs the sales activities of the Bioprocessing value chain, developing business for the future across target modalities.


  • Develops strategy for the Go-to-Market Enablement function well-aligned with the overall commercial strategy.


  • Develops and nurtures partnerships with Bioscience strategic customers, creating long term value for both customers and the business unit.


  • Positions Bioscience as the most valuable partner to Lonza Group Divisions, as a solution provider and as a commercial go-to-market channel that expands Lonza Group’s accessible market.


  • Works closely with innovation, strategic programs and other marketing/BD initiatives across divisions to leverage tools, best practices and collaborative opportunities.


  • Implements appropriate management/ governance systems to achieve business unit and company goals.


Key requirements:


  • Must have at least a Bachelors, master’s or higher preferred


  • 15+ years’ experience in a similar role


  • Ability to oversee a commercial operations department that is comprised of diverse functions and teams; must have the agility to operate as a general manager of a broad department with multiple team interdependencies.


  • Discipline in project planning and workstream approaches, developing relationships with stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment on insights.


  • Demonstrated leadership experience (leading a team with direct reports, and/or significant enterprise/matrix leadership).


  • Strong collaborative spirit.


  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding goals and objectives.


  • Experience developing actionable customer insights, and ensuring insights are brought to life through all marketing efforts from strategy development to implementation.


  • Proven ability to handle and lead multiple projects simultaneously.


  • Strong organizational and operational skills with attention to detail.


  • Ability to align with field leadership and team members to obtain input on launch strategies and tactics.


  • Entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, presentation delivery, and interpersonal skills to be effective in a team environment.


  • A solid compliance mindset and demonstrated integrity on the job.

The full-time base annual salary for this remote position is expected to range between $292,500 and $341,250. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the location of the successful candidate, qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and job-related knowledge. Full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including performance-related bonus (40%), medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, an employee assistance program, paid time off (PTO), and more.
