Job Description:

Are you currently a DHHS Child and Family Services Specialist and been trained in Nebraska or have you recently been in that role? If so, we need you!


Advocate for each child's safety, permanency, and well-being.
• Respect the individuality of each child and family serviced.
• Respect each child's family and culture.
• Implement family-centered practice principles into case management to ensure the inclusion of children and families in the decision-making processes that impact their lives.
• Promote normalcy in the lives of children in care.
• Adhere to principles and procedures of Structured Decision Making as a tool in decision making that will support keeping children and families safe.
• Understand the benefits of utilizing evidence-based and promising casework practices.
• Commit to evidence-based and promising family-centered casework practices that utilize a least-restrictive approach for children and families.
• Coordinates efforts of formal and informal resources to ensure that the needs of children, youth and families are being met in the most efficient way.
• Identifies and makes appropriate referrals when formal intervention is not needed but family has an unmet need.
• Design clear, concise and descriptive reports under time constraints.
• Provide shadowing opportunities to trainees.
• Assist with training to trainees and current CFS specialists.
• Conduct monthly check in group meetings with new CFS specialists and many other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:




Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice or other closely related area AND experience performing case management responsibilities in protective services, alcohol/drug abuse, juvenile justice probation, counseling or social services delivery.



Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a Child and Family Specialist with DHHS in Nebraska. Experience as a CFS specialist currently or recently and have had all training. At least one year demonstrated experience providing case management within Child protection Services, preferably in Nebraska, two or more years strongly preferred. Knowledge of Structured Decision Making, Family Centered Practice and Safety Organized practice, with experience training, coaching, and providing technical direction to others regarding these programs, strongly preferred.



Other: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation is required. Travel for face-to-face visits with children, families, service providers, and other work related.


Knowledge of the practices, procedures, and equipment used as a cfs specialist; record keeping practices and database management; specialized processes and terminology associated with assigned work; grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition for general business and specialized purposes. Understand the Juvenile Court Process. Participate in On-call rotation.


Ability to: communicate in person and by telephone, email, and correspondence to exchange information and ideas; interact effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds; summarize technical data and results of research and tracking activities into reports; prepare, proofread, and correct errors in information, documents, reports; understand and apply instructions and program-administrative policies and directives; implement decisions made and take actions selected by others to achieve work objectives, performance goals, and priorities; learn the organizational structure, mission, and activities of the employing agency; learn agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned; maintain confidentiality; maintain accurate records and documentation
