POSITION - QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST - MECHANICAL

LOCATION - NEW HAVEN, CT AREA

Role Description:

Arcadis is seeking to add a well experienced QA mechanical construction professional who has a deep understanding of the construction project process as well as being comfortable on-site working with a range of project professionals. It would be great if candidates have construction knowledge which comes from working on a range of institutional projects from new construction to renovation to utility upgrades. Strong communication skills are also essential as the successful candidate will work extensively with stakeholders, internal teams as well as external teams.

Role Accountabilities:


  • Read and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Review and provide recommendations to Project Manager regarding the contractor's Administrative, Informational, and Technical Submittals
  • Attend and participate in preconstruction, preparatory, contractor coordination and safety meetings
  • Perform daily site visits and provide appropriate level of documentation of QA activities, including a written report with photos for each visit to the job site
  • Verify contractor installation and job progress complies with approved shop drawings, specifications, and industry standards
  • Monitor testing and inspection of materials and products to ensure requirements are being met
  • Review contractors daily QC, testing and inspection reports
  • Participate in Substantial Completion Inspections, Construction Completion Inspections and other required inspections
  • Coordinate with contractor for testing and inspection requirements for on-going and up-coming features of work
  • Oversee inspections and testing of materials and products to confirm quality conformance to specifications
  • Create, recommend, and monitor deficient workmanship and non-conforming materials
  • Review pay requests and level of progress of each line item to confirm and approve the percentage complete
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and the public using principles of good customer services

Qualifications & Experience:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Strong understanding of construction project management principles, practices, and methods
  • Wide construction experience having worked on a range of projects - simple to complex. Preference will be given to candidate have worked on institutional construction/renovation or upgrade projects
  • Experienced conducting site visits to compare actual construction with design drawing, contract plans and specification, Authority quality standards, building codes and industry practice
  • Ability to assess barriers to project completion and find technical solutions to keep the project moving forward
  • Recommend appropriate construction practices to improve job quality and/or adherence to design, costs and established schedules
  • Strong ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Self-starter!
  • Deep understanding of safety and OSHA standards
  • Proficient in MS Projects, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or Technical degree in an industrial field, or equivalent combination of relevant experience
  • 3 years of full-time experience in construction, quality assurance or project management or a satisfactory combination of education and experience
  • Working experience as a Construction Superintendent, Quality Control, or Quality Assurance Consultant with a range projects like: vertical construction to utility upgrades with a focus on mechanical systems
  • USACE Construction Quality Management Training for Contractors (preferred - nice to have)
  • OSHA (preferred - nice to have)
  • Strong communications skills to encourage positive working relationships

The salary range for this position is $76,110 to $114,165 year.
