The Integrated Device team develops and integrates sensor-flowcells for DNA sequencing products. We develop products from concept through design, process development and product launch. You will play a key role in assembling a complex integrated consumable that includes optics, fluidics, thermal, electrical components.

The Engineering Technician is a part of the San Diego Illumina headquarters consumables Prototyping Services team which provides an organized experiment design platform. As an Engineering Technician you will carry out experiments and collect experimental data. This position will provide opportunities to interact with various project teams and internal partners to rapidly investigate problems, develop countermeasures, and prevent recurrence. A successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to work independently in a team-oriented environment.

Job duties and responsibilities include:


  • Familiar with microelectronic assembly processes in a clean room environment. Familiar with gowning protocol

  • Be able to work with high precision instruments such wire bonder, pick 'n place tool, automated dispensing with adequate documentation

  • Be able to multi-task different operations for short periods of time within a work day

  • Collect data based on engineering instructions and collate them using Excel.

  • Be methodical in doing repetitive operation to minimize part to part variation

  • Basic failure analysis techniques such as using handheld voltmeter, microscope.

  • Available for 2nd shift

Education and experience:


  • Typically requires a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience

  • Experience working in a proto environment clean room

  • Experience working with detailed instructions and guidance from engineering staff

  • Additional capabilities in computer applications such as excel would be useful

  • Data Entry

  • Experimental testing experience preferred

The estimated base hourly range for the Engineering Technician 2 role based in the United States of America is: $22.59 - $33.84. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
