Los Angeles County (LAC) Department of Health Services (DHS) Women’s Health Programs and Innovation (WHPI) is seeking skilled Health Educators (HEs) to assist in the implementation and provision of pregnancy termination and abortion care coordination services. Primary responsibilities are to support WHPI’s program aimed to deliver individualized health education and psycho-social care coordination to patients seeking pregnancy termination/abortions services. These services include clinical and practical supportive services related to family planning and reproductive health. The position is located at an outpatient family planning clinic within a DHS medical center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).
Abortion/pregnancy termination services include sensitive education and counseling pre-conception planning, family planning, sexually transmitted infections, perinatal, postpartum, sexual health, and substance use. The Health Educator (HE) will be involved with providing departmental and community linkages to practical supportive services depending on individual needs by scheduling appointments, providing pre appointment education and follow-ups through face to face or telehealth encounters. The HE will work in close coordination with the OBGYN clinic staff, nurses, and other providers as needed, and gather, maintain, and organize patient private and protected health information (PHI), through patient assessments, counseling and education, data collection and reporting to demonstrate grant deliverables and outcome measures.
Patients presenting for abortion services may be dealing with one or a combination of issues related to their sexual and reproductive health such as experiencing socio- economic distress, domestic violence, mental health, children, and family issues, or receiving treatment for a substance use disorder (SUD).
A master’s degree from an accredited college and/or university accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Applicants with related master’s degree in a psychology, sociology, health, and healthcare related field may be considered upon presentation of verifiable education/experience directly related to the Description and Essential Job Functions listed in this job description.

Specialization in Health Education and Promotion.
Education and/or training related to directly providing abortion and family planning services, reproductive health, or similar relevant education/training.
Experience delivering health education curricula on an individual and group basis.
