Role description:
Arcadis' Water Management team is currently seeking a PrincipalStructural Engineer to support flood resiliency design work nationwide. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Professional Engineer to join our nationally recognized technical staff and utilize their expertise and knowledge of flood control infrastructure design & construction. This is a full-time position to be located at our Long Island City office in New York.
Role accountabilities:
Provide structural engineering expertise to our national practice of flood resiliency design for a number of Flood Control Projects featuring T and L-type concrete floodwalls, combi wall, roadway access gates such as swing gates and roller gates, hydraulic closure structures such as sector gate, vertical lift gates, Tainter gates and sluice gates, stormwater/drainage pump stations, outfall structures, retaining walls, small scale control buildings, shallow and deep foundations (piles, drilled shafts) etc.
Guide junior engineers to prepare structural design calculations, write design documentation reports as well as the development of engineering plans, specifications, and quantity estimates for projects
Perform QA/QC review of structural plans, specifications, and calculations. Provide Independent Technical Review (ITR) of structural design work performed by other design groups or sub-consultants
Assist with project pursuits and contribute to proposals and associated preliminary structural engineering design activities
Consult project scope document and prepare man-hour estimates and budget for structural tasks on various projects
Contribute professional engineering recommendations as appropriate and mentor young structural engineers
Provide engineering support during construction thru submittal reviews, review of changes initiated by construction contractors, design and preparation of project modifications, and site visits with accompanying trip reports
Conduct site visits and field surveys as necessary to assess field conditions
Work directly with a variety of engineering disciplines, office/project staff, clients and sub-contractors, throughout the project life cycle
Adhere to Arcadis practices, including but not limited to maintaining a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, quality, rules & regulations, and enforcing safety standards
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline
15 years of relevant experience
Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
Key Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in structural design related to steel, concrete, FRP etc.
Basic understanding and experience with Bentley MicroStation Suite, AutoCAD, Revit
Experience in preparing and reviewing project drawings, specifications, schedules and cost estimates
Experience of working in collaborative environments such as Bentley ProjectWise and Autodesk BIM360
Proficiency with STAAD Pro, and Mathcad
Familiarity with USACE SpecsIntact
Familiarity with USACE engineering manuals and unified guide specs
Project/Task management experience
USACE civil works design experience
Excellent understanding of various building codes, FEMA guidance, and USACE engineering manuals, and technical guidance document
Clear and concise oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, conduct effective client presentations, and prepare written reports
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline
