Overview

The Senior Network Specialist position on the CAA Engineering team requires the ability to rapidly assess project requirements, and determine the optimum physical inside plant solution; balancing costs against central office, headend, or remote site constraints. Individuals will partner with other engineering, construction, implementation, and project management teams to respond quickly to incoming commercial individual case basis projects. The individual must be capable of creating detailed physical central office, remote site, and customer premise designs that meet the scope and requirements for the physical installation, power, and cooling of the commercial product to be delivered. Design and engineering work includes estimating costs quickly, and when necessary, producing detailed Engineering Package deliverables that drive the physical installation, powering, and cooling of the equipment and material. The CAA Engineering team is regionally based, and engineers are accountable and responsible for the Inside Plant records creation and updates for assigned companies and exchanges.

CAA commercial products include, but are not limited to dedicated Internet access, Metro Ethernet services, and voice services. This position will also be responsible for the development of internal process, engineering standards, and the training and mentoring of staff on those processes and standards.

Responsibilities

Provide detailed designs and  engineering for all physical Inside Plant aspects on individual case basis commercial customer product delivery projects
• Participate in the design, engineering, and records maintenance for assigned companies and exchanges.


• Collaboratively prioritize work as needed to handle Expedites and Jeopardy situations in a timely manner.


• Partner with other Engineering teams to create a seamless Engineering function in the implementation pipeline.


• Work with Technology Development to update and maintain Standards as necessary.


• Manage the Engineering process and workflow for continuous improvement; monitor internal customer feedback and conduct internal review sessions to ensure engineering output is consistent and high quality.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years' professional work experience


• 6+ years' experience in Voice/Data/Video networking


• Must have and maintain a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and insurance

Other Qualifications

• Very Detail Oriented


• Central Office or cable Headend experience (Racking, cabling interconnect and management)


• AC power, DC power, and grounding experience


• Strong people skills and the willingness to be accountable for results.


• Experience with Broadband access technologies.


• Solid understanding of Transport technologies including SONET, ATM, Ethernet, POS, DWDM, WDM.


• Knowledge and experience with process management and improvement techniques.


• Strong organizational, coordination, written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to function in a team environment and individually.


• A proactive approach to projects and issue resolution.


• Ability to set own priorities as well as manage changing priorities for you and others and to handle several complex tasks concurrently.
