The Production Manager - CNC Machining oversees personnel in charge of programming, setup and operation of a multi- axis CNC machines. Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems, always leading by example. The Production Manager - CNC Machining will manage the organization, safety and maintenance of the machine shop. This position serves as a focal point of all machining operations within the company and requires coordination of work with other departmental supervisors, machinists, sub-contractors, engineering and management to ensure timely delivery of quality parts.
Essential Functions
Supervision/oversight of Programmers (1-2 people) and Machine Operators (6-8 people)
Constructing and proving CNC programs for new components
Manage the programming team and assist in the design and commissioning of tooling necessary for the machining of new components
Management and planning of production/workload in accordance with business priorities and budget goals.
Ability to set up, program, operate and troubleshoot CNC Lathes and Mills independently
Training and development of operators to ensure proper execution of the defined process
Monitor and report on the efficiency and quality of the production personnel (OEE)
Developing a well working team environment -- with emphasis on safety, quality and efficiency
Manage and communicate visual standards (5S, Dashboards, etc.) among teams and shifts.
Continuous improvement of the process to achieve cost, quality and delivery
Schedule/coordination of machine maintenance
Be familiar with quality control procedures including first piece inspection
Experience/Skills:
Strong knowledge of the equipment within a machine shop, experience of manufacturing precision parts to tight tolerances on CNC machines, lathes and mills .
A good knowledge of CNC Programming techniques, production fixturing and production tooling design
The ability to program 5-axis machining center, multi-axis lathes, large VTL's and cylindrical grinders
Knowledge of appropriate cutting data for machining a variety of materials including ductile iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, nickel alloys, and aluminum
Experience with CAD/CAM software - Solidworks, MasterCAM and Vericut preferred
Familiarity with DMG Mori "CELOS" and Siemens SINUMERIK 840D SL control is a plus
Familiarity with Okuma OSP control is a plus
Excellent communication skills and a proactive team player
Maintain a safe working environment ensuring all company procedures are followed
Knowledge/experience working with ERP/MRP Systems - Infor Visual ERP a plus
Experience in an ISO certified working environment - ISO 9001:2008 or ISO 9001:2015
Be able to read and interpret blueprints to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T).
Knowledge and use of precision measuring gauges to perform first piece and in-process inspections. Instruments should include but not limited to micrometers, calipers, depth gauges indicators, scales, and precision gauges
Education / Certification
Must possess 2+ years of vocational training or a technical diploma in CNC machining processes and programming plus at least 5+ years of work experience as a machinist OR have a minimum of 7+ years of overall experience working with CNC machining processes and programming.
Must have a minimum of 3+ years functioning in a Supervisory or Leadership capacity in a manufacturing environment
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Job requires standing - some of the work can be done while seated. Since overhead cranes are available in all work areas, Technicians are not required to lift more than 50 pounds.
Wears and complies with all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) applicable to work area, including but not limited to eye protection and safety shoes.
Follows all safety rules applicable to machine as stated on posted signs and in Company policy.
