Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Co-op student or Intern to join our Ashland Specialty Ingredients’ Aquarius Film Coatings business at our Wilmington, DE plant.  This position will work with laboratory personnel to improve the color drawdown technique.  This position will report to the Technical Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Learn good laboratory practices


• Learn laboratory testing techniques that includes, viscosity, dry powder uniformity, color spectrophotometry and others.


• Work closely with laboratory personnel to understand and evaluate how a color card is created


• Work with Plant Process Engineer to develop and execute a design of experiments evaluating parameters that impact the film formation on a color card


• Develop and/or revise color drawdown procedure based on testing results


• Present results to R&D and laboratory personnel

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering


• Good communication and computer skills


• Good work ethic and ability to follow rules and work safely


• The ability to work in a fast-paced team environment


• Desire to work in a chemical plant

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

• Prior laboratory experience


• Experience with statistical software


• Prior plant experience is a plus, but not required
