Department Information



The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.


With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.



Job Summary



This position will assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research in Pulmonary Research Group within the Wells Center for Pediatric Research. This research includes small animal handling, molecular, cellular biology and biochemistry experiments.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Examines the role of immune signaling and metabolism in the regulation of T cell responses in health and disease.

  • Makes extensive use of molecular biology techniques and genetic models.

  • Maintains mouse colonies, including setting up and maintaining breeder cages, maintaining non-breeding cages, animal handling, such as weaning, ear notching, tail snips, and dosing.

  • Maintains colony records.

  • Performs molecular biology experiments including genotyping, western blot analysis, qRT-PCR assays, ELISAs, cell culture, RNA isolation, and flow cytometry analysis.

General Responsibilities


  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results

  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments

  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed

  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training

  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management

  • May train junior-level staff.

  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Working Conditions / Demands



The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.



Additional Information



$38,000 - $43,000 per year based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
