We are seeking a highly motivated Genomics Research Associateto join our dynamic Research & Development team in St. Cloud, MN.The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, performing, and reporting on the development of sensitive and reliable microorganism detection assays using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies. The individual will apply knowledge and work experience to execute research projects collaboratively with both precision and integrity. Additional responsibilities include supporting project communications and training staff on novel methods.

What can I expect in this role?
In this position, you will work Monday-Friday regular business hours.

Some key duties in this role include:

Leads projects for the development, manufacturing, quality control (QC) of new processes, microbiology/molecular products, or cell-based biomaterials and transfers necessary details to other functional units (Production/QC) as needed. Based on group designation, performs microbiology, virology, and cell culture techniques including but not limited to microbial/viral culture, enumeration/titration, isolation, and identification using traditional and rapid methods. Performs molecular biology techniques including but not limited to PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid quantitation, cloning, nucleic acid isolation, bacterial transformation, and transfection. Performs genomics techniques including but not limited to next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation, library QC, NGS instrument operation, and data analysis. Designs experiments, plans, assists, and trains others in manufacturing test lots for R&D functions according to the appropriate DMR, policies, and procedures. Compiles data and presents results, analysis, and recommendations for new products and processes. Documents research to support new product design controls, validations, verification, qualification, and specification/performance and statistical analysis as they apply to the companys products and according to policies and procedures Fill out and record all applicable production documentation. Leads projects for the development and production of products for customer requests or service contract projects that do not fall within the scope of any current product lines and/or requires the capability of the department. Communicate with customers regarding results and custom specifications when necessary Writes, reviews, and trains others on new department SOPs/update existing department SOPs as necessary. Collaborates, supports, and communicates on a regular basis with project teams and members of other functional areas. Makes detailed observations, summarizes, and analyzes data and interprets results to provide solutions to technical problems in a resourceful and creative way. Actively acquires new lab skills and specialized knowledge. May serve as a subject matter expert on methods, techniques, or diagnostic platforms within the R&D department.Maintains an understanding of regulations and scientific methods used in molecular, microbial or virological detection and product/biomaterial development, recognizing critical characteristics of Microbiologics products.

Here is what we are looking for:

Preferred Education/Experience
Four (4) year degree in relevant field (e.g., biology, microbiology, genetics/genomics, virology, cell biology, molecular biology, food science, bioengineering) required. Graduate degree in relevant field (e.g., biology, microbiology, genetics/genomics, virology, cell biology, molecular biology, food science, bioengineering) Minimum of 4 years of Laboratory experience working with cell culture or microorganisms and/or molecular biology techniques in diagnostic, clinical, manufacturing, food safety or other commercial environment. For Genomics Team, two years of experience in next-generation sequencing methods including library preparation, quality control, data analysis, and instrument operation is preferred. Technical understanding and moderate hands-on experience with advanced molecular biology and/or molecular virology techniques. Experienced with multiple commercial diagnostic platforms is preferred Skilled in basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, primer design, etc.). Proficient with aseptic technique, basic chemistry techniques and formulations. Strong knowledge and practical experience with various public databases for retrieving publications or nucleotide sequences. Minimum of 2 years of product development (project management) experience, including assay optimization, reagent development, integration and testing, technology transfer to production/QC and necessary documentation.Established experience working with automated laboratory equipment and multiple commercial assays and platforms.Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
