Certifies VA benefits according to federal guidelines and regulations; performs needed analysis calculations to determine eligibility requirements satisfy all federal, state, and institutional laws; determines award amount adjustments, changes, or corrections as needed to student VA accounts.
Coordinate with Enrollment Management Bursar’s Office, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Academic advisors to address inquiries regarding the use of veteran benefits; ensures supporting documentation required by the VA is communicated and collected.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of issues affecting Veterans and/or student Veteran community. Communicate with Veteran federal, state, and local agencies as necessary.
Prepare and maintains records and files for reporting purposes; compiles data and prepares special or recurring reports for the supervisor or other departments as requested including federal audits.
Perform outreach to Veterans and other military personnel through Veterans’ organizations and other civic organizations throughout the district; educates prospective students on Veterans benefits and educational opportunities at the college Provide resources for prospective, new, and continuing Veteran students.
Demonstrate strong skills in judgment and decision-making, problem-solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Possess excellent analytical and project management skills.
Maintain strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate cultural competence in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, ideology, religion, national origin, and other areas of diversity.
Directly advises the Student Veterans Organization, a registered student organization.
Develop and implements a strategic plan for the various programs and services offered.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
Experience
Two (2) years of related experience working with the military, Veteran community, and military assistance programs preffered.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate and write effectively Experience with serving veterans Experience working with diverse populations Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Microsoft Word and Excel
