Position Summary:

Reporting to the Forest Program Senior Manager, the Program Specialist is primarily responsible for coordinating work developed as part of the Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape (KRCL), which is one of eight Conservation Landscapes created by Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The 185-mile long Kittatinny Ridge is also a priority geography for Audubon Mid-Atlantic as one of the most climate resilient landscapes in the region that serves as a migratory superhighway for birds. The Program Specialist will also coordinate migratory stopover habitat improvement projects along the Ridge to benefit National Audubon Society’s priority bird species.

This role requires strong communication skills, as a collaborative approach is required to advancing the goals outlined in both the Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape Strategic Plan and Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Plan. The Program Specialist’s primary responsibility is to serve as the Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape’s External Lead working closely with DCNR’s Internal Lead for the KRCL. Together they convene the Kittatinny Ridge Conservation Landscape Steering Committee to advance landscape-wide goals by creating sustainable, lasting external partnerships with other governmental agencies, including the Game Commission, environmental, and other non-profit organizations as well as community leaders along the ridge. Through this collaboration, the Conservation Landscape will leverage resources and expertise, identify funding opportunities, and streamline project planning and implementation. This person must have expertise in conservation planning, facilitating partnerships and project management.

The Program Specialist shall ensure that the conservation, restoration, and stewardship goals of the landscape also advance AMA and National Audubon Society's Healthy Forest priorities. This role will coordinate with public and private landowners to protect or enhance migratory stopover sites and work with partners to reduce the habitat fragmentation effects of utility transmission lines across the Kittatinny Ridge. Therefore, experience developing habitat or forest management plans is preferred.

This role also involves coordination with additional members of Audubon Mid-Atlantic’s team, including conservation and policy staff. The Conservation Specialist is a full-time, remote position, working 35 hours/week, located in the Harrisburg, PA region. Occasional work on weekends and evenings is required.
