Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 


Other duties may be assigned.


Set up and/or Prepare multiple process machines, equipment and materials for production runs, and conduct test runs of machines to ensure their proper operation.


Operate or tend equipment or machines involved in the blending of material in compliance with established specifications. Start, stop, clean, and monitor machines and equipment for proper functioning.


Handle a wide variety of configurations and specifications. Read and interpret orders and prioritize tasks based on customer driven timeline and availability of materials.  Analyze proportions and perform complex calculations and configurations of material to be used in the production process so as to maximize overall yields and minimize waste.  Select required material and/or feed, handle, prepare and/or weigh/measure material based on calculation for in process or finished goods processes.


Monitor equipment and processes to ensure adherence to standards.  Observe display screens, control panels, equipment, and material entering or exiting processes to determine if equipment is operating correctly; adjust equipment controls to maintain specified heat, pressure, or speed.


Accurately maintain and record production information, communicate with supervisor and relevant personnel on the condition of the operation/production and any unusual circumstances or issues. Notify supervisors or mechanics of equipment malfunctions.


Effectively clean and maintain machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions.


Load and unload trucks, vans, railcars or containers. Verify the contents on inventory loads against shipping documents.


Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, and/or containers, by hand or using trucks, forklifts, or other equipment.


Operate and perform basic daily maintenance of all material handling equipment to provide damage free handling (loading/unloading) for inbound material, hazardous, bulk, and/or non-bulk chemicals, packaging materials, and finished goods. Perform daily inspections of material handling equipment; make arrangements for maintenance and repair of same equipment.


Operate computer, scanners, and/or label printers according to the SOP sheet, work instructions, or customer specifications. 


Inspect, prepare and load trailers, including the preparation of documents to produce packing lists in conformance with customer specifications and transportation requirements.  Receive and unload trucks of materials.  Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, identifies damaged items, records shortages and notifies supervision of damages and shortages.  Properly label/receive all inbound bulk and non-bulk chemicals, and packaging materials.


Actively contribute to continuous process improvement.  Participate in training and continuous learning opportunities; meet training and/or certification requirements of the job, department, product or area as designated/defined in work instructions and quality standards.


Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all company safety standards and regulations.

Education/Experience:


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Minimum of 6 months of experience working directly in a manufacturing environment required; or any combination of education and experience.


Language Ability:


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Math Ability:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:


This position requires proficiency in one or more of the following technologies to be successful:


Industrial Control software, Enterprise Resource Planning Software, TMS, Word Processing software, Spreadsheet Software, and Electronic Mail software


Certificates and Licenses:


May be required to hold certification for the operation of industrial trucks


Other Qualifications:


This position may require specific knowledge in one or more of the following areas to be successful:



  • Basic computers and electronics.

  • Raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Minimum of 6 months of chemical handling experience. Chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

  • Relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safe operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

  • Minimum of 1 year of forklift experience.

The hands and fingers are used extensively to manipulate materials/products and controls of equipment/machinery, turn valves/dials/knobs, enter data into a computer and other related tasks.


 


Normal or corrected vision to enable the associate to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) is necessary in this job.  The associate must be able to read and understand specification/recipe and/or schedules, and read, understand and respond to information displayed on computer consoles.

The primary work location for this job is in the manufacturing area which may or may not be climate controlled.  Some jobs may be performed in a work cubicle or office in the manufacturing/production area. Some jobs may require having to work outside to unload or issue materials.


 


Associates may be required to go to/work in areas where the operation of industrial machinery creates noise sufficient to be distracting. Work may also require associates to be exposed to machines operating at high speeds, or with exposed and rotating gears/parts.


 


The work environment characteristics described above necessitate the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): safety glasses, closed shoes.  Some work areas require the wearing of a hearing protection, hard hat, face mask, beard cover, respirator, arm covers, long-sleeved shirt, and galoshes/overshoes. The associate must wear the prescribed personal protective equipment at all times when in designated areas or when using tools, operating machinery and/or handling materials with specific PPE requirements.
