Job Description Summary

The role is an essential, high profile position within the Controller/Chief Accounting Officer’s Group at Wintrust Financial Corporation (the “Company”) and is primarily responsible for the Company's consolidated financial statements, the timely submission of related SEC filings (Earnings Release, 10-Q, and 10-K) and for researching and analyzing financial data to complete the various financial reports. In addition, the role is responsible for the completion of the department's internal controls over financial reporting and adherence to SOX guidelines. This position will review the work of others and lead by example. 

This position reports to the Corporate Senior Vice President – Reporting and will also work directly with senior management of the Company, including the EVP Controller/Chief Accounting Officer.

This is a hybrid work-environment role based out of our Rosemont Corporate Headquarters.

What You’ll Do


  • Lead department preparation of SEC filings, including the Form 10-Q, 10-K, quarterly earnings releases and 401(k) financial statements. Assists with other Company public documents such as Annual reports and Proxy statements.

  • Responsible for the completion of the department's internal controls over financial reporting and adherence to SOX guidelines.

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders both at Wintrust and outside the organization (e.g. external audit).

  • Oversees research of various regulation/industry/peer financial reporting and accounting topics.

  • Develop and coach department members and coordinate technical and professional soft skills training.

  • Interacts across corporate departments to implement projects, enhance processes and resolve issues.

  • Supports the Controller/Chief Accounting Officer’s Group in establishing and maintaining Company financial reporting standard operating procedures.

  • Participates in special projects as assigned by the SVP - Reporting or Chief Accounting Officer related to accounting and financial reporting matters.

Related Experience/Qualifications


  • 10-15  years of related work experience required comprising of previous SEC experience in public accounting or corporate financial reporting

  • Experience coaching and developing junior staff

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

  • CPA preferred, but not required

  • Public accounting experience preferred, but not required

  • Understanding of processes/accounting related to the banking/financial services industry preferred, but not required

  • Accounting or Finance degree
