Description Overview

The Senior EHS Engineer will support corporate EHS and department objectives through management consulting, training and development, inspections, audits and investigations, ergonomic reviews, environmental regulatory evaluations and committee assignments related to the environment, safety and health.

Scope of the Role

  • Provides EHS expertise to client areas by advising of potential safety hazards and environmental requirements and correcting any deficiencies. Interfaces with operations management and the engineering departments to provide input and advice on the safe and environmentally sound design and construction of new and renovated buildings, processes and/or equipment.
  • Develops and implement EHS guidance documents, standard procedures and policies, and company alerts on various topics which may include cutting and welding, flammable liquids, combustible dusts and gases, waste minimization, etc.
  • Manages Air Emissions compliance programs including facilitation of permit applications, development of compliance documentation programs and record keeping management to ensure compliance.
  • Manages EHS inspections/audits to identify and evaluate hazards and prevent incidents, coordinates documentation activities, and monitors departmental recordkeeping for accuracy.
  • Institutes accident investigation program including software to capture and record incidents as well as procedures and training to ensure complete and accurate accounting for incidents and follow up.
  • Manages ergonomics training and development program for the company using internal and external resources. Initiates training activities, develops guidance documents and advises departments on proper ergonomic setup and design to avoid repeat trauma issues.
  • Oversees EHS aspects of acquisitions including Phase 1, Phase II and Baseline Environmental Assessments (BAEs). Manages company transition and compliance gaps to ensure reduced risk to the company.
  • Identifies training needs, writes proposals, authors training materials/guides, and conducts EHS training programs. Maintains knowledge of state of the art training techniques and develops audiovisual presentations and materials for use within the company.
  • Jointly administers the Contractor Safety Program with Engineering Department, conducts outside contractor pre-qualification analysis, and attends pre-job safety meetings.
  • Forms and facilitates ad-hoc committees consisting of various client areas for the development of safety standards and safety training, and participates in client safety team meetings.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, safety, industrial hygiene or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands on experience with EHS management systems, hazardous waste and transportation regulations, and local, state and federal related compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and motivate teams. Position requires ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work independently on all job functions on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and best practices, the ability to influence, and effective presentation skills.
  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge of various programs including Microsoft Excel, Word Power Point, and Access. Working knowledge of Autocad, MS Project and SAP.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Five to seven years experience in safety, environmental engineering and/or industrial hygiene.
  • Working knowledge of product reliability, blue print reading, toxic and reactive chemistry, and hazard communication.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical operations is highly desirable.
  • Lean training (Blackbelt or Greenbelt) preferred.
